I am Project Gutenberg this year. If you haven’t tried, you may want to know what all the riots are. If you don’t already know, Gutenberg is a new interface for editing posts and pages in WordPress. Although it is now a plug-in, I plan to integrate it into the WordPress core. Therefore, it is best to familiarize yourself with it as soon as possible. In this article, I will provide Gutenberg’s tour guide and work on some of the tools and functions it provides. Note: Gutenberg is still actively developing and the project team is requesting feedback. This means that you may experience some changes before integrating into the core. However, the main functions remain unchanged. The
Male heart of Gutenberg – block Gutenberg is block based. This is the content section in each post or page used to create, edit, and output content. A block can contain text, one or more images (including libraries and slides), video, and so on. For text, each paragraph, list, or heading has its own block. Each block can be moved within the content, so it can be easily changed when editing a post. You can also adjust settings for each block, such as style and layout. Gutenberg also changed the appearance of the post editor. Displays a more concise editing interface than the tabs for layout and text (or code) views, and you can switch views of individual blocks. There is also an interface that reminds people of custom programs, rather than the familiar metabox on the right. The
When you open a new post, things look bad. Working through new posts, view some specific elements on the screen. Adding content adding content using Gutenberg initially seems a little difficult. How do I create all these blocks to insert content? The answer to the text is that it does not belong to you. Start typing as usual. If you need a new paragraph, just press the return key, and the system will automatically create a new paragraph on the new block. To create a list, start input and select the paragraph symbols above and to the left of the block. Select a list from the drop-down menu. If you are a touch typist like me, and you like to use the tab key on the keyboard, the tab key is used to navigate between blocks, so Gutenberg is not available. But they seem to be doing it. The
To create another type of block, click the + icon in the relevant position of the post, or if the block is not under the currently working block, press tab to create it, and then move to the next one. Create a new block under an existing block. This only works when in a text block. After you create the block, click the icon for the type of block you want to create. There is one text, one title, and one image. To create a title, click the H icon and enter text. You can also select the level of the title. You can also click the + icon to add blocks, and then select the appropriate options to create citation and subtitle blocks. As you can see, the most common block types can be accessed through the + icon, while the common block types can be accessed through the direct icon on the right. The
After selecting the image icon, an interface will be displayed to upload images directly from the block without entering the media uploader. Then you can edit the subtitle directly in the block. There is a button to click the link and specify the subtitle format. You can also set and edit sorting using the icon above the image. Instead of selecting sizes from small, medium, and large, you can manually scale the image using the zoom tool. This is flexible
This means that the layout may look dirtier than the standard image size. Accessibility issues currently being addressed by the project team. The
After the image is aligned left or right, the text block will automatically appear next to the image, and the text surrounding the image can be added. Add a smaller text block next to the male image, and then add a second text block, both of which will float correctly. It’s a bit tricky to do this now. The tab key is not available, but to add a new block, you must click the + icon or click the icon to the right of the image. Also, you may not have the option of placing text under right – or left aligned images. You must continue until you reach the bottom of the image. There are still bugs here. Please continue to check after solving them! The
Click the image icon in the upper left corner of the library block, and then convert to: select a library to convert the image block to a library. You can also use the same icon to convert again. After creating the gallery, you can choose to upload more images. You can only add uploaded images in this way, but you can’t convince the media library to add more images. If you want to add more than one image at a time to your computer or media library, the best way is to use the + icon to create a new library (instead of pressing tab), select the library, and then add the image. Converting existing images will cause the media library to be unable to add more images, making it more difficult to add multiple images at a time. This is another bug I am sure of! The
To edit a block, simply click the block and start editing. You can edit text, change images, and so on. You can also delete a block by placing the mouse over the upper right corner of the block and clicking the displayed Recycle Bin icon. To realign blocks, use the arrow keys to display the arrow keys as you drag the blocks around the screen or move the mouse over the upper left corner of each block. Male click the icon in the upper left corner or the abbreviation in the upper right corner to convert the block to other blocks in the same block type group. For example, while you cannot change a text block to an image block, you can change a paragraph to a list, title, or citation, and the image block to a gallery or vice versa. The
If you hover over a block, depending on the block type, you can also access the format bar, where you can access several basic formats. Therefore, you can specify formats such as sorting, text thickness for text blocks, and edit sorting and add links for images. You can also use this format bar to access the link icon. Male click the abbreviation on the right side of the block to access more options, such as view code, copy block, convert to shared block, etc. Shared blocks – throughout the post, gutenberk, which content replicators are really interested in, is characterized by shared blocks. You can easily copy blocks of content from posts and pages on your site. If you use the plug-in to create a \
To create a shared block, simply create all types of blocks whose content you want to display in a post. Then move the mouse over the ellipsis on the right and select convert to shared block. Please specify a unique name for the block. Then open another post, click the + icon, select the sharing option when adding a new block, and select the block to add. The added shared block does not have to be a post block. Therefore, you can create a draft post that contains all the shared blocks and then add them to other posts as needed.
. Sweet! In Gutenberg’s document settings Gutenberg’s post editor, you can see that the familiar metabox on the right is replaced by a menu very similar to the custom menu. With it, you can select block at the top to operate with the block currently being edited, or you can select a document to edit the settings of a post. The
The options in document view include all contents viewed in metabox, etc. Status and visibility – use this tab to post or edit the status and \/ or visibility of a post. This is the same as publishing metaboxs. Revisions can also be accessed here. Category – assign categories to posts and add new categories as in category metabox. Tag – it works the same as tag, and again the same as tag metabox. Recommended image – works in the same way as the recommended image metabox. Extract – use this tab to edit the extract. Personally, I think its location is much better than the current metabox hidden under the content. Discussion – manage comments here. Move under content again. Save postingswhen saving and publishing posts, it is recommended to highlight important differences. Gutenberg is dynamic because it is made in JavaScript rather than PHP. That is, changes are automatically saved as you work. Because Gutenberg replaced it, you no longer need to press the button to draft the post. When posting, Gutenberg will prompt you to confirm that you are ready to post. This is a convenient check. You can already imagine adding additional checks through the plug-in. Gutenberg: Although there are still some bugs, it is really promising. There’s the Gutenberg side I’m still worried about. For me, who still have a lot of bugs to fix and use the keyboard as much as possible, I expect to be able to create lists without a mouse. But I have a few features that I think are great. Sharing Posts offers many possibilities to avoid extra code or manually copying content. I like Gutenberg’s way of easily reordering content. I also think the tab on the right is an improvement on the current metabox. Although it will not be installed on the site at present, I look forward to doing so in the future and regard it as a part of the core. Have you ever used Gutenberg? We want to know what you think.
